A sauna is no longer a luxury reserved for hotels and spas; it has become a valued feature in homes, gyms, and wellness businesses across Nairobi and Kenya. However, a sauna that is designed poorly delivers weak heat, wasted energy, and endless maintenance problems. Refitec Kenya provides professional custom sauna design services in Nairobi and throughout the country, creating bespoke sauna spaces that match your available room, your preferred heat style, and your budget. Our design team handles every detail, from insulation thickness and bench layouts to heater sizing, ventilation, and electrical planning.
Why Custom Design Matters
A sauna is a thermally demanding environment. The room must heat quickly, retain heat efficiently, and move air gently so that bathers feel comfortable steam rather than stagnant heat. Buying a generic kit and forcing it into an unsuitable space almost always results in cold corners, high electricity bills, and premature material failure. Custom design ensures that every square metre of your sauna works in harmony: correctly sized for the heater, correctly proportioned for the number of users, and correctly ventilated for fresh, dry heat.
Our Custom Sauna Design Process
Refitec Kenya follows a structured design process that removes guesswork. First, we conduct a site survey in Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, Thika, or wherever your project is located, measuring the available space, checking floor and wall conditions, and assessing electrical capacity. Second, we hold a consultation to understand your goals, whether you want a traditional Finnish sauna, an infrared cabin, a compact home retreat, or a large commercial facility. Third, we produce detailed design drawings and a 3D layout showing bench arrangements, heater position, door swing, lighting, and ventilation paths. Finally, we deliver a transparent bill of quantities covering materials, labour, and timeline, so you know the full cost before work begins.
Design Options We Offer
Our custom sauna design services cover a full range of configurations. We design indoor saunas converted from spare rooms, bathrooms, and basements, as well as outdoor sauna cabins for gardens and poolside areas. We plan bench layouts ranging from single-tier compact designs to multi-level commercial arrangements with upper and lower platforms. We specify appropriate softwood interior linings, such as cedar, spruce, and hemlock, along with heat-resistant lighting, tempered glass doors, and backrests. For commercial clients, we design saunas that comply with public facility hygiene and safety expectations while maximizing bather capacity per session.
Energy Efficiency and Running Costs
Because electricity tariffs in Kenya continue to rise, running cost is a central design consideration. We size heaters accurately for the room volume, specify high-grade insulation and vapour barriers to reduce heat loss, and position ventilation so that heat recovery is maximized. A properly designed sauna reaches operating temperature faster, shortening the daily pre-heat period and lowering your monthly energy bill.

Frequently Asked Questions
Many clients ask how long a custom design takes; a typical residential design is completed within one to two weeks from the first survey. Others ask whether a sauna can be designed for a very small space, and the answer is yes: compact two-person saunas can fit within a footprint of roughly two by two metres when ventilation and heater sizing are engineered correctly.
