Brine Cooling System Installation

Brine cooling system installation in Kenya by Refitec Kenya. Calcium chloride and sodium chloride brine systems for fish plants, ice plants, and food processing. Call +254 704 843 613.
Brine cooling remains unmatched for immersion freezing and ice production in Kenya’s fish processing and ice plant sectors, particularly along the coast and at Lake Victoria landing sites. Modern brine systems, engineered with correct concentration control, corrosion protection, and reliable refrigeration plant, deliver decades of dependable service in conditions that would destroy lesser systems. Refitec Kenya builds and maintains brine installations suited to harsh industrial and coastal environments, and rehabilitates aging brine plants that newer contractors are unwilling to touch.

Brine Cooling System Installation by Refitec Kenya

Brine cooling is one of the oldest and most reliable methods of industrial refrigeration. A brine system uses a chilled salt solution, typically calcium chloride or sodium chloride, circulated through tanks and coils to cool products by direct immersion or through heat exchangers. Brine systems remain the preferred solution for fish processing, ice plants, meat curing, and certain chemical processes because the brine can be cooled well below zero degrees Celsius while remaining liquid, and because immersion cooling is extremely fast and uniform. Refitec Kenya installs brine cooling systems for processors in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and across Kenya.

How a Brine Cooling System Works

The refrigeration plant, comprising a condensing unit and a brine chiller evaporator, cools the brine solution to the required temperature, commonly between minus ten and minus twenty degrees Celsius for immersion applications. A circulating pump then moves the chilled brine through insulated pipes to the point of use, such as a fish immersion tank, a flake ice maker, or a shell ice tank. The brine absorbs heat from the product and returns to the chiller to be cooled again in a continuous cycle.

Design Considerations Our Engineers Manage

  • Brine concentration. The freezing point of the brine must sit safely below the operating temperature. Too dilute, and ice will form on the evaporator and block the system; too concentrated, and viscosity and corrosion increase. We test and correct concentration during commissioning.
  • Corrosion control. Brine is corrosive to steel. We specify corrosion inhibitors, coated pipework, and compatible materials for tanks, pumps, and heat exchangers.
  • Evaporator protection. We fit brine chillers with adequate flow safeguards and alarms so the evaporator can never be starved of circulation, which would freeze and split it.
  • Insulation. All brine pipework is insulated and vapour-sealed to prevent energy loss and condensation damage.

Our Installation Scope

Refitec Kenya delivers turnkey brine system installation: we size and supply the condensing units and brine coolers, fabricate and install the brine tanks, fit pumps and valves, run insulated piping, install electrical controls and temperature instrumentation, mix and test the brine, and commission the system under production conditions.

Applications

Fish landing and processing plants chilling fish in immersion tanks; ice plants producing flake and block ice for fishing fleets and fresh produce markets; meat and bacon processing; chilling of pickling and curing baths; and chemical process cooling.

Service and Support

We repair and maintain existing brine plants, correcting refrigeration faults, replacing corroded pipework, rebalancing brine concentration, and servicing pumps and controls.

Frequently Asked Questions

What brine concentration do I need? The concentration is selected so that the brine freezing point sits safely below your lowest operating temperature; calcium chloride brines serve the lowest temperatures, while sodium chloride suits food-contact ice production. Is brine corrosive? Yes, untreated brine attacks steel pipework and tanks, so we dose corrosion inhibitors, use compatible materials, and monitor the circuit during maintenance visits. Can you service an old brine system? Yes, we rehabilitate existing brine plants, correcting concentration, replacing corroded sections, and overhauling pumps and controls.

Refitec Kenya installs and maintains brine cooling systems for fish processors, ice plants, and food factories in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and countrywide.
