Sauna Lighting Installation, Nairobi Kenya
Lighting shapes the entire atmosphere of a sauna. The right lighting calms users, highlights the timber, and makes the cabin safe to enter and exit; the wrong lighting turns a warm, restful space into a harsh, clinical one. Because saunas operate at extreme temperatures, sauna lighting cannot be improvised: ordinary fittings melt, wiring insulation degrades, and unsafe installations create genuine fire hazards. Refitec Kenya provides professional sauna lighting installation in Nairobi and across Kenya for homes, hotels, gyms, and spas.
Why Sauna Lighting Is Specialised
Sauna lights and their wiring must tolerate continuous ambient temperatures of 80 to 100 degrees Celsius. Fixtures are therefore purpose-built: heat-resistant lamp holders, protected or shielded lamps so bathers cannot touch hot surfaces or glare, and cabling routed through cooler zones or protected by heat-resistant conduit. Positioning matters equally. Lights are typically placed behind diffusers, above benches but not directly overhead of bathers, or low behind benching to create an indirect glow.
Our Sauna Lighting Installation Services
Refitec Kenya designs and installs lighting systems matched to each cabin and its users:
- Heat-rated sauna light fixtures with protective covers and diffusers
- Warm-white LED upgrades engineered for high-temperature environments, delivering low energy use and long service life
- Indirect and concealed lighting behind panels and benches for a soft, restful glow
- Dimmable controls located outside the cabin, so users adjust atmosphere without leaving the room
- Backlit features such as star ceilings, LED strips along bench edges, and step lighting
- Colour therapy (chromotherapy) options for spas and hotels
- Safety compliance work, including replacing unsafe existing fittings, protecting cabling, and fitting shielded housings
Our Installation Process
We begin by assessing the cabin layout, timber finish, bench positions, and existing electrical routing. We then propose a lighting design balancing visibility, atmosphere, and safety. Installation is carried out by qualified technicians using heat-rated fixtures and correctly routed, protected wiring, with all switches and controls mounted outside the sauna. Once installed, we test the full system through several complete heat cycles to confirm stable operation, then hand over with guidance on lamp replacement and care.
Signs Your Sauna Lighting Needs Professional Attention
Call Refitec Kenya if your sauna currently has ordinary house fittings, lights flicker or fail repeatedly, fixtures have discoloured or melted, lamps are exposed to direct touch or glare, wiring is visible inside the cabin, or the lighting simply makes the space feel harsh rather than restful. Unsafe sauna electrics should be treated as urgent, not cosmetic.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can ordinary light fittings be used in a sauna? No. Standard fittings are not rated for 80 to 100 degrees Celsius and will fail, discolour, or become unsafe. We install only heat-rated sauna fixtures. Where should sauna lights be positioned? Above and behind diffusers, or indirectly behind panelling and benches, so bathers experience a soft glow rather than direct glare. Can lighting be dimmed? Yes. We fit dimmable controls and scene options, with all switches mounted safely outside the cabin. How long does installation take? Most sauna lighting projects are completed in a single day, including testing through full heat cycles.
